Visiting Canada

A mosaic of cultures, Canada is a beautiful and wonderful country to visit. Every year, approximately 37 million people visit the “great white north". A great majority are tourists, some are business travellers, and others are visiting family or friends. In the year 2001, there were 49 million travellers to Canada, most of who were from the United States (Statistics Canada).

CanadaVisitors bring economic, social and cultural benefits to Canada, contribute to global trade and cooperation, and promote international understanding. In return, Canada provides visitors with safety, top notch facilities for health care, and very few diseases to worry about.

Mercer Human Resources Consulting released the results of a recent survey on the quality of life in 215 international cities. Vancouver ranks as the third safest city in the world. A separate poll was also conducted on the top cities with respect to health and sanitation. Topping the list was a number of Canadian cities including Calgary in first position followed by Ottawa, Montreal and Vancouver ranking in the top 10. What did they base their findings on? According to a senior researcher at the firm, the top cities had excellent hospital services and medical supplies as well as low levels of air pollution and infectious diseases.

Travellers to Canada should contact the Canadian Consulate or Embassy in their country before departure. They will be required to carry a valid passport and possibly a visa, depending on their country of origin.
